BUILDING,
CONSTRUCTION AND ALLIED TRADE SKILLS

NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN BUILDING,CONSTRUCTION AND ALLIED TRADE SKILLS  (LEVEL 1)

This programme is for those intending to gain an introduction to basic skills relevant to the building, construction and allied trades
sector.


Graduates will have foundation knowledge and skills relevant to a wide range of trade occupations. This programme is not intended
to recognise the level of commercial competence required for trade professionals but will give ākonga a solid foundation should they choose to embark on further trade related training or an apprenticeship.


Ākonga will be able to apply knowledge to perform construction tasks and complete BCATS projects under supervision. Graduates will have completed their projects in a range of construction and allied trades learning environments such as workshops, training establishment facilities, outdoor areas or industry sites through simulated workplace settings.

Course Overview

US12927:  Demonstrate knowledge of, select, maintain, and use hand tools for BCATS projects

US12937:  Construct timber garden furniture as BCATS projects

US24352:  Demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe working practices and use PPE during the construction of a BCATS project

US24355:  Demonstrate knowledge of construction and manufacturing materials used in BCATS projects

US24356 Apply elementary procedures and processes for a BCATS project

US24357:  Receive instructions and communicate information in relation to BCATS projects

US24358:  Plan and monitor the construction of a BCATS project, and quality check the product

US33247:  Apply basic numeracy skills in structured and familiar contexts (Foundation Skills)

Graduates of this programme will:

Graduates of this programme will be able to apply knowledge to perform construction tasks and complete BCATS projects under supervision. This qualification is a pre-requisite for the New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades (Level 2).

Entry Requirements

Eligible learners must be one of the following:

  • a NZ citizen, and if employed, must have the full support of the manager and company, and

  • have access to appropriate supervisors/mentors at work for work experience an on job activities

  • Please note: All eligible candidates will be interviewed prior to enrolment to ensure the programme is suitable and meets the needs of the candidates.

 

Eligible learners must:

  • Have access to appropriate supervisors/

  • mentors at work for work experience and on job activities.

  • Have access to tools and equipment
