TIKANGA
Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga (Mātauranga Māori) (Te Kaupae 2)
New Zealand Certificate in Tikanga (Mātauranga Māori) (Level 2)
This programme is for whānau looking to gain knowledge and experience and to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to respect, understand, and apply Māori cultural practices.
This programme is aimed at ākonga who are either beginning their journey of understanding Māori cultural practices or wanting to expand on their existing knowledge, experience or understanding of tikanga.
Ama Training differentiates itself through our integration of Māori and Pasifika pedagogies across all our programmes. Where possible, local tikanga will be used to provide the local Iwi and Hapū context in relation to local resources, kawa, whakapapa and whenua.
Ākonga will develop a basic understanding of tikanga within a specialist field founded on a Māori worldview. Graduates will have basic knowledge and skills to support and participate in tikanga under close supervision. Graduates will also be able to apply knowledge fundamental to tikanga practices across the community in general.
