NZ Certificate in Business (Level 3)
(Introduction to Team Leadership)

This course is best suited for those currently in employment or those who will have access to a workplace environment that will allow them to complete the assessments.

The aim of this programme is to develop people within Aotearoa to gain the essential skills and knowledge to successfully lead a team, manage a diverse team of people, and contribute to effective team performance.


Graduates of this program will develop their leadership skills to help meet the team's objectives effectively in a multi cultural environment, meeting the kaupapa of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.


This programme is taught through Mäori and Pasifika pedagogies and is suitable for new team leaders who are wanting to increase their skills and knowledge or anyone wanting to become a team leader.

Course Overview

29040  Manage work flows in an organisation 20 credits
32346  Develop a team environment and relationships to contribute to a business entity’s objectives 20 credits
32347  Lead team performance to contribute to a business entity objectives 20 credits

Entry Criteria

  • NZ Citizen or Resident or on a current work visa

  • Must be employed in either a management/supervisor role or are looking to move into these roles

  • Full support from manager and company

Academic Requirements

  • 40 credits NCEA Level 1 including 10 literacy credits and 10 numeracy credits 

Experience

  • Students 20 years and older who do not hold the minimum entry requirements for a programme will be eligible to be enrolled subject to evidence of previous educational, work or life experience 

Duration / Credits

  • 6 months

  • 45 credits

Students Graduating from this course will 

  • Use effective team performance principles to lead a team to meet objectives

  • Develop alternative leadership and working styles 

  • Develop SMART objectives to achieve specific outcomes

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders

  • Use self-management skills to increase own performance within a team to achieve an entity’s objective

  • Apply effective problem-solving and decision-making techniques to develop team objectives

  • Behave professionally and ethically and in a socially and culturally responsible manner to contribute to the performance of the team
