Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 1)
New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua (Level 1)

This foundation programme is aimed at those beginning their journey in Te Reo Māori. The purpose of this course is to build the learners confidence to speak, listen, read and write at a basic beginner’s level in Te Reo Māori.


This course is intended for those who have a desire to contribute positively to the development of te reo kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori, or who have a personal and/or professional interest in te reo.


This course may help learners reconnect to who they are, and where they come from.

Graduates of this course will become
confident to use basic language to communicate in Te Reo Māori (with support), in familiar everyday situations.

Graduate Profile

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. Use te reo Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures at a basic level as an expression of mana tangata.

  2. Use te reo at a basic level to talk about themselves and their own connections to land and environment as an expression of mana whenua.

  3. Apply knowledge of basic reo to everyday use and develop respect for te reo as an expression of mana reo.

  4. Use te reo at a basic level to achieve tasks in familiar contexts as an expression of mana ao tūroa.

Entry Requirements

Eligible learners must be one of the following:
            (ii) a Domestic Student, or
            (iii) an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident currently residing in New Zealand.

  • All eligible candidates will be interviewed prior to enrolment to ensure the programme is suitable and meets the needs of the candidates.

New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua (Level 2)

This programme is aimed at those who have a basic understanding of Te Reo, and are wanting to continue to build confidence to use Te Reo (with little support) in familiar everyday situations, and in a Māori environment where they feel comfortable.


The course builds the ākonga confidence to speak, listen, read and write at a basic beginner’s level in Te Reo Māori.

 

This course is also intended for those who have a desire to contribute positively to the development of te reo kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori, or who have a personal and/or professional interest in te reo.

  2. Use foundation level reo to express connections to land and environment, prominent places, and people of the area as an expression of mana whenua.

  3. Apply knowledge of foundation level reo in selected contexts and develop an emerging respect for te reo, as an expression of mana reo.

  4. Use foundation level reo to achieve tasks in specified contexts as an expression of mana ao tūroa

Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 3)
New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua (Level 3)

This programme is intended for whānau who have an intermediate understanding and ability in Te Reo.  This programme is also suited for whānau who are looking to build on their Te Reo knowledge and further their journey learning Te Reo and build on the foundation skills established in speaking, listening, reading and writing skills gained from Te Pōkaitahi kaupae 1 and 2.  

This programme is tailored for those who have a desire to contribute positively to the development of Te Reo kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori, or who have a personal and/or professional interest in te reo.   

This programme will build on the reconnection of who they are, and where they come from gained in the kaupae 1 and 2 programmes.  Graduates of this programme will have the skills in Te Reo Māori to be able to communicate, with little support, in familiar everyday contexts and in Māori environments that they are comfortable in. 

At Ama Training we differentiate ourselves by integrating Māori and Pasifika pedagogies across all our programmes, not just those that are kaupapa Māori.  Where possible, we incorporate local tikanga to provide the local Iwi and Hapū context in relation to local resources, kawa, whakapapa and whenua.
