WELDING

NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN WELDING  (LEVEL 3)

This programme is for those who are interested in pursuing a career in welding and is suited for either those new to the industry or those already in the industry.


This programme will provide ākonga with the necessary knowledge, understanding and practical skills that will enable graduates to safely perform basic welding tasks.

US2671:   Weld steel structures in the downhand positions using the manual metal arc welding process

US2672:   Weld steel to a general purpose industry standard using the gas metal arc welding process

US2676:   Weld stainless steel sheet using the gas tungsten arc welding process

US2682:   Weld steel in the downhand positions to a general purpose industry standard using the manual metal arc welding process

US21907:  Demonstrate knowledge of welding principles and quality control and safe welding practice under supervision

US22906:  Demonstrate knowledge of welding and weld low carbon steel

US22907:  Demonstrate and apply knowledge of welding aluminium and stainless steel

US29397:  Demonstrate knowledge of basic trade calculations and units of measure for mechanical engineering trades

US29550:  Demonstrate basic knowledge of common engineering metals

US29551:  Demonstrate knowledge of the strength, mechanical properties, and treatment of engineering metals

US30283:  Weld steel structures in the downhand positions using the gas metal arc welding process

US30665:  Demonstrate and apply knowledge of workplace communication in mechanical engineering trades

US33134:  Identify and calculate trade calculations to solve problems for welding engineering trades

US33135:  Demonstrate knowledge of safety and health while welding and thermal cutting

Graduates of this programme will:

Graduates of this qualification will have knowledge and skills that will assist them into an entry roles in the welding, fabrication, steel construction or mechanical engineering industries. This qualification is a great foundation for those wanting to progress on to an apprenticeship in these industries as well.

Entry Requirements

Eligible learners must be one of the following:

  • a NZ citizen, and if employed, must have the full support of the manager and company, and

  • have access to appropriate supervisors/mentors at work for work experience an on job activities

  • Please note: All eligible candidates will be interviewed prior to enrolment to ensure the programme is suitable and meets the needs of the candidates.
